Here's an unboxing and video tour of LG's Encore, a touchscreen feature phone on AT&T that's priced at $49.99 with a 2-year contract. It features a 3 megapixel camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to music.
The LG Encore is a feature phone on AT&T that offers a 3-inch touchscreen display. We recently received a unit in the mail and have spent a few days with it.
The Encore is a very pocket-friendly device and it's compact size felt nice in the hand. It offers three home screens: one for contacts, another for widgets, and a third for shortcuts. The Encore felt a bit sluggish during our tests, and its touchscreen could have been more accurate. Its web browser was also a disappointment, and while it loaded full HTML websites, it wasn't ideal; the Encore could hardly keep up while we scrolled. Its landscape and portrait QWERTY keyboards were also a bit cramped while typing.
Overall, the Encore will best serve teens looking for a device that offers a 3.5mm headphone jack for music playback, a somewhat-customizable homescreen, and a 3 megapixel camera for grabbing photos of friends. Frequent web users and data fiends should look elsewhere.
