A Nokia E75 Messaging update reveals new PIM synchronization features
Rumors by Ricky Cadden on Monday March 30, 2009.
Nokia Messaging PIM Sync
A new update to Nokia Messaging for the Nokia E75 smartphone has revealed what appears to be an early implementation of an over-the-air PIM synchronization feature, possibly coming to Nokia's email service soon. Screen shots show a new Personal Information Management settings option, with the ability to synchronize contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, and travel info.
Nokia launched a PIM synchronization service, called Sync on Ovi, earlier this year using SyncML technology. The features discovered more recently appear to be powered by Intellisync, which Nokia purchased a few years ago, and previously supported PIM synchronization. The ability to schedule automatic over-the-air synchronization of personal information would place Nokia Messaging in direct competition with many other services, including Apple's MobileMe service. Nokia Messenger on my N95 8GB, synchronises mail and calendar over the air via the intellisync server installed on my employers mail server.
We have never been able to sync contacts (due to the silly Groupwise mail server we use), but calendar syncs perfectly (including accepting/declining invitations and meetings).
Rumor - confirmed.
