Dell's would-be smartphones supposedly not different enough
Rumors by Ricky Cadden on Monday March 23, 2009.
Barron's is reporting of an analyst note that says that Dell recently pitched its rumored smartphones to the major U.S. carriers, only to get rejected for not being different enough. Dell has been rumored to be working on a smartphone for quite some time, and has apparently experimented with using both Windows Mobile and the Android operating system.
The analyst quoted in Barron's maintains that Dell was turned away for its smartphone not showing enough differentiation from smartphone incumbents like Samsung and HTC. However, it sounds as if Dell hasn't given up, but is merely going back to the drawing board to create a differentiated smartphone to try again.
