Nokia looking to make its Nokia Music Store DRM-free

Rumors by Ricky Cadden on Monday March 02, 2009.

Please note that this story is based upon rumor and/or speculation.

At the launch of the Nokia Music Store and Comes With Music in Singapore, Adam Mirabella, director of global digital music retail at Nokia, is quoted as saying that the Finnish giant is in talks to remove DRM protection from its Nokia Music Store.

The Nokia Music Store currently has a multi-million track library of music from all of the major record labels. The tracks are protected with Microsoft's PlaysForSure DRM, which restricts the number of phones and computers that the songs can be played back on. The Comes With Music program allows users 12 or 18 months of unlimited downloads from this store, but those tracks are restricted, as well. Some sources believe that only one of the major record labels is holding the DRM-free revolution from hitting the Nokia Music Store. [via Symbian-Guru.com]
