The RIM BlackBerry Storm 9530 from Verizon might be getting an improved text selection tool, according to BlackBerrySync.com. The new tool apparently will show a small rectangular box on the screen, which the user can drag to select text for copying, pasting, or other editing. Currently, the BlackBerry Storm only has a small blinking cursor, which is difficult to see and use on a touchscreen.

It is believed that this new selection tool will be made available through a future firmware update, though there is no official confirmation of that. [via IntoMobile]

But we still wont have multitouch will we? I'm sick of Apple's insistence of keeping smartphone technology to themselves. It's like saying that "drag and drop" is an exclusive technology. Please! Some of the best smartphones are being neutered because of Apple's stupid policies.

The Storm has always had multitouch capabilities. That is how the selection function works - you touch the screen at two points to select the text (or messages, whatever) between your fingers. That is multitouch.
