Rumors are swirling that Microsoft could officially launch its new Windows Phone 7 operating system, perhaps with a device partner, on October 11 during a press event in New York City.

Unnamed Microsoft senior officials were cited as sources by Pocket-Lint, which said devices could land later this month, but the rumor does hold some water if Microsoft still plans to maintain its promise to have devices on the market by this holiday season. Microsoft released Windows Phone 7 to manufacturers on September 1.
