Review of Samsung's near-perfect D600 Slider

Connectivity
For a GSM Samsung phone, the SGH-D600 is well connected. The quad band SGH-D600 offers no EDGE data capability, but a triband variant (called the D600e) does. The D600's Bluetooth system worked amazingly well. I was quite surprised at not only how well it worked with headsets and data connections, but I was impressed with how well thought out the user interface was when it came to Bluetooth. For example, individual images and video clips can be made available to other devices via the OBEX Xfer profile as opposed to having every file accessible, which is standard. Samsung also gives the user the option to make the device discoverable (visible) or not, something that Motorola doesn't. There is even a setting for forcing secure mode connections.
If Bluetooth isn't your thing, you can use the included USB cable to link directly to a personal computer. The phone can be configured to look like a mass storage device that can be directly manipulated by a PC (no driver needed), a dialup modem, or as a PictBridge device for printing directly to a compatible printer.

Our handset came with synchronization software for contact and calendar entries. I used the system with my copy of Microsoft Outlook 2003 with mixed results. The contacts synched up as expected, but the calendar entries were wrong. Now I admit that the date and time were not properly set on the device when I ran the synch app, but that would not explain why appointments that were in Outlook for the beginning of December showed up in the phone as being scheduled for the end of December.
