Sony Ericsson has launched the XPERIA X10, the company's first flagship Android-powered smartphone. The device features a fast 1GHz processor, a 4.0-inch WVGA touchscreen display, and an 8.1 megapixel camera with all sorts of new Android functionality.

The XPERIA X10 has built-in quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/190MHz) and tri-band UMTS (900/1700/210MHz or 800/1900/2100MHz) support with HSPA for high-speed data connections.

The X10 runs on a customized Android user interface powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor that powers the apps that should appear vividly on the device's 4.0-inch WVGA (480 x 854 pixel) touchscreen display.

The new XPERIA also features an 8.1 megapixel autofocus camera that includes geotagging, facial recognition, smile detection, and other technologies. Thanks to aGPS support, the X10 integrates with Google Maps and Wisepilot turn-by-turn navigation.

Sony Ericsson's new Graphic-rich Timescape application lets users visualize all of their conversations from Facebook, Twitter, email, and messaging in one place. Users can also easily aggregate conversations with individual contacts. Mediascape organizes local and online media, such as music, photos, and video with information from YouTube, PlayNow and other content sites in one spot.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 user can take advantage of the phone's advanced multimedia functionality and listen with Bluetooth A2DP-supported wireless headsets and headphones or utilize the standard 3.5mm audio port for use with standard headphones. For storing media, the X10 features 1GB of internal memory along with support for microSDHC(INFO) cards. An 8GB card is bundled in-box.

Standard messaging options like SMS and MMS are available, along with out-of-box Exchange support. Android gives access to a broad range of Google applications, like Calendar, Maps, Talk, Voice Search and more.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will be available in black or white color schemes in the first quarter of 2010.
