Samsung has announced that its eco-friendly Blue Earth solar-powered touchscreen phone will become available in Sweden this month with additional regions to follow. It will launch in France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Portugal, and other European and Asian countries soon, according to a press release.

Detailed specifications for the Blue Earth have also been announced. The quad-band GSM phone features HSDPA connectivity for high-speed downloads. It comes with a 3.0-inch WQVGA capacitive touchscreen(INFO) which should aptly display photos taken with its 3.2 megapixel camera. Media lovers will appreciate that the phone includes a microSD slot for expanded storage options, stereo FM radio, and Bluetooth with A2DP for use with wireless headsets and headphones.

The Blue Earth features a back panel with solar cells that charge the device in sunlight. The phone's body is made from recycled plastic and it is packaged with recycled paper. Quick access to "eco-mode" easily limits power consumption on the device to conserve battery life. It is also bundled with a 5 star energy efficient charger. The Blue Earth launched in February at Mobile World Congress, as we reported.

Pricing for and exact availability of the Samsung Blue Earth have not yet been announced.
