HTC launches Touch2 touchscreen smartphone, first phone with Windows Mobile 6.5

Snapshot by Brian James Kirk on Wednesday September 02, 2009.

HTC has announced the HTC Touch2, the first smartphone device to come loaded with Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft's newest mobile operating system.

The 3G powered Touch2 features a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor along with 512MB ROM and 256MB RAM to run applications. A 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display is on-board to show-off HTC's popular TouchFLO user interface and the device's tight integration with Google Maps for Mobile and YouTube. A zoom bar on the Touch2's face gives added control for changing text size and viewing media.

Users can snap photos with a 3.2 megapixel fixed focus camera and save them on microSD(INFO) memory cards. The device also offers Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP for use with stereo Bluetooth products.

The HTC Touch2's Windows Mobile 6.5 OS features two new services from Microsoft. Microsoft My Phone lets users sync phone data, like contacts, appointments, and photos, securely to the cloud. Windows Marketplace for Mobile is the Microsoft's mobile application marketplace, where users can find new and useful apps for their new Touch2.

The HTC Touch2 will be available on October 6 with wider availability in Europe and Asia in the fourth quarter.
