Video preview of the Samsung M7600 BEAT DJ, with DJ scratching effects

Review by Michael Oryl on Wednesday May 06, 2009.

The Samsung M7600 BEAT DJ is a music focused touchscreen equipped phone that was officially introduced to the world at the 2009 Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. It features a large capacitive touchscreen(INFO) display that is very colorful and sharp, thanks to the fact that it was built with AMOLED(INFO) technology instead of traditional TFT LCD.

The phone we used in the two videos in this story is a pre-production device that Samsung sent to us for evaluation. As such, we haven't done a complete review on it, and the few problems that we encountered with it are not carved in stone - everything, really, is subject to change.

But with that said, the device worked really well for us. The physical design is both unusual and functional. The 3.5mm headphone jack and Band & Olufsen ICEpower amplifier are greatly appreciated, and the BEAT DJ music mixer/editor offers some cool, entertaining functionality for the would-be DJs of the world. What other phone on the market allows you to scratch songs and overlay them with cool effects like a flanger or alter the tempo or pitch of the song? It won't be something that you use every day, but you can make some cool ringtones from your own music files with it, that's for sure.

We were unable to test out the 3G calling and data capabilities of the M7600 since the device was designed to work on the networks found in Europe and some other parts of the world, but not here in the USA. GSM/EDGE reception for the U.S. bands was a bit weak, but that's not uncommon for Samsung devices developed for Europe. In any case, it could get better by the time the device is ready for sale.

i dont understand is this a phone? if yes how many megapixel does it ve for camera and what makes the phone unique

@Princess
yes, this is a mobile phone from samsung.
3.2mp. and serious, mega pixel doesn't really affect the quality of your photos, it just shows how much sapce your photo can take.
It is a music phone, that till today, i don't see a mobile phone that is able to manipulate your music to that extent of freedom.
Having said that, it is not really aimmed at the main stream people, even if they are music lovers, people will just tend to JUST listen to their music. But for semi-audiophiles like me, yup, it will be a nice feature to handle my music.
personally, i feel that this phone is perfect to a very large extent, just 2 grudge.
No wifi, and samsung uses an OLD version of battery for this phone, which can be considered low capacity.
960mAh isn't really alot and it is very restricitive if i want to upgrade the battery life as they are somewhat stopping production for such battery, turning to those slim kind..

Hi :)
I ordered this phone today and I can't wait until I get it! It's in my hands in a couple of days, maybe over the weekend.. Anyways I just read the last comment, and I wonder what kind of battery it uses.. Is it the same as i is for the samsung sgh-l760? I have an sgh-l760 that got broken and the battery is still working.. If it isn't I want to buy some new batteries for the m7600.

Hope you can answer me futureM7699user :)

Greetings from Norway!
