Review of AT&T's Samsung a877 Impression, with AMOLED display

The Samsung SGH-a877 Impression is one of the Korean giant's latest QWERTY messaging devices for AT&T. What sets this device apart from the rest, however, is its use of a high-quality, 3.2-inch
Physical Aspects
With a body that measures 114.5mm x 58mm x 16.5mm (4.5in x 2.3in x .6in) in size, and weighs 151.3g (5.3oz), the a877 Impression is by no means a small or particularly compact device. It does, however, sport a rather nice physical design that is more attractive than some of Samsung's other full touch devices, like the Instinct.
The slider mechanism works quite well, and the keyboard has very good, consistent feel - except for the space bar, which can be finicky at first. The 240x400 pixel
It's no lightweight, but the a877 Impression has a good, solid design that works well for the tasks the phone was designed for.

I bought this phone and have these comments: 1) I don't know why some phones are made to use the same port for charing and connecting a headphone. When I rid in a car, I sometimes need to charge and talk on a headset at the same time. You can't do that with this phone, 2) The "widgets" are too limited. There are several functions I can't assign to a widget that I desire very much, 3) this is not unique to this phone, but I wish the keypad display would remain on the touchscreen when you need to punch in a number for an automated answering system. When you have to punch "1 for English", the keys disappear and there is nothing to punch. I called the Samsung rep who said to puch the "Hold" button which was at the top of the phone. Well, it is at the bottom of the screen and when you punch it, it puts the call on hold and does not allow you to punch in your menu choice. You actually have to punch "Dial" to bring back the dislay of the keypad and then punch in your menu choice (similar to the iPhone), 4) When you use the touch screen keypad to dial a number and make a mistake at the beginning of the number, you can't go back to the beginning of the number without erasing all of the digits so you have to erase the entire number and start all over again in order to change one digit. These are the things I dislike the most about the phone.

I had this phone for a few days and returned it for a Blackberry Bold simply because the Impression isn't great for those who e-mail frequently (doesn't notify you when you receive email, you have to open the internet to check emails, etc.). Its great for texting but not emailing. Also the physical keyboard's top row was difficult to use because of the limited space available with the slider there. Its also a slippery device, I've almost dropped it several times when typing on the keyboard. It is a FUN phone and great for texters but NOT for emailing.

Good connections, no dropped calls at all. Loud & clear. The ATT version is frustrating at locking application software into place, not allowing customizations. Touch screen is very sensitive, I cant use even with stylus. My wife loves it. Internet is practically impossible to use because every three seconds the application pps up questions "you're gonna use data". "Youre gonna be charged for data". "Do you wanna spend for data?". It is IMPOSSIBLE to surf or use google maps because of this. Samsung says it cant do anything about the pestering. The screen lock button you may have heard complaints of, but it is great. It cannot accidently unlock in your pocket like my Nokia 5800. The GPS is off about a mile. The top row of keys was very very difficult to use due to space. I thought I would like a slide out keyboard but it turned out I dont like it. Stlus on touch screen much easier to use. Summary: Good phone for calls, text. Bad for internet.

Hey, i've had this phone for about 2 months and its AWESUM. i'm 16 so i text alot and the keyboard iz by far the best i've ever used. I have larger hands and i dont have a problem pushing the unlock button so idk why ppl complain about it. also when ur dialing u can go back and change numbers without erasing it all, i know because i jus did it. the only thing i would improve is the lock screen. i would like to be able to add my own pics...other than that this phn iz BOMB.
5 starz *****

I have the impression since the very first day it hit the stores. It came as a suprise to me while in the store to see a new phone come in and it definitely had made a lasting impression on me. The phone has served as the perfect business tool for me with the greatest widget that can hold calculators, calendars, yahoo searche engine, and favorites as well as many other nifty widgets. The best feature about this phone are the graphics, the thing that attracted me the most to the phone were the bright colors radiating from the display. I have had this phone since april and it has beena very reliable and durbale phone. I have never dropped the phone on the screen and so far so good, if i dropped on the screen I am sure it would malfunctioned but this has been my first touch screen to really work like it should

how do you one button speed dail? I'm trying program a phone number to a number on the key pad for speed dailing
Jay/jay @ 10:29:28PM EST on Sunday December 27, 2009
Um pete, if you touch next to the number when dialing it will put the pointer there so u can delete at the beginning without erasing the entire thing. This phone is not to slippery...maybe you just have butterfingers. My only complaint is that you cant get speed dialing ;(
