HTC Snap smartphone launched with QWERTY keyboard and Inner Circle email filtering

HTC has debuted the HTC Snap, its newest QWERTY smartphone. The Snap has a slim candy bar form-factor that is less than a half-inch thick and features a full-QWERTY keyboard and an extended 1500mAh battery. The device has tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) and dual-band UMTS (900/2100MHz or 850/1900MHz) support with HSDPA for high-speed data connectivity.

While it looks much like the popular T-Mobile Dash, the Snap updates the classic QWERTY bar design of the original with an offset keyboard layout and a "jog ball" instead of a d-pad. The Snap features the Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard operating system, and has a 2.4-inch QVGA display and 2 megapixel camera with video recording capability. It also sports a WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth with support for stereo headsets, and GPS integration.

HTC has sought to alleviate the feeling of being overwhelmed by email by creating Inner Circle, a feature that brings email from a pre-selected group of people to the top of a user's inbox with a quick push of a dedicated button.

There will be a U.S. version of the Snap called the S522 that will support the 850 and 1900MHz 3G bands used by AT&T. The Snap is expected to be available in Q2 of 2009, and the U.S. S522 version later this summer. No word yet on pricing.
