This evening, before the start of tomorrow's Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Sony Ericsson launched its latest flagship Walkman music phone. But while this Walkman phone still does music very well, the W995 is also equipped for heavy duty photo and video tasks, too, and can even upload and download files on blazingly fast
Media Go acts as a link between your W995 Walkman phone and your personal computer. Photos, music, and video files can be synchronized automatically with the phone, and the application can even be used to hunt down and transfer Podcasts with minimal effort. Once leaded onto the phone, the W995's large 2.6-inch QVGA resolution display, built-in speakers, and integrated stand make enjoying your media files as easy a process as getting them loaded in the first place.
Beyond music and video, the W995 Walkman's new 8.1 megapixel camera will ensure that you'll never be without a camera when something entertaining happens. The camera features automatic focus, face detection, and also has a flash on hand for when the sun goes down. Other media friendly features include a 3.5mm headphone port, quick access to YouTube content via 3G or WiFi, and an included 8GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card for storage.
There will be two versions of the W995 available eventually. The base model supports quad-band GSM/EDGE and HSPA capable UMTS 35 on the 900 and 2100MHz bands. The North American version will swap out the 900MHz UMTS support for 850/1900MHz support. The W995 measures 97mm x 49mm x 15mm (3.8in x 1.9in x .6in) in size and weighs 113g (4.0oz). It will be available in select markets in Q2 of this year, and will come in red, black, and silver color schemes.
