Garmin-ASUS unveils nuvifone G60 navigation phone details

Snapshot by Brian James Kirk on Thursday February 12, 2009.

Although announced earlier this month, we've garnered more complete details of the Garmin-ASUS nuvifone G60. The linux-powered smartphone offers a large, 3.55-inch WQVGA touchscreen display to show off its advanced navigation services. Its easy navigated, touch-based operating system offers a simplistic way to make calls, perform local searches, and find locations using the phone's GPS chipset.

Location-based services enhance everday features like email, SMS, photo sharing, and social networking. Users can store geo-tagged photos taken with the G60's 3 megapixel autofocus camera on the smartphone's 4GB of internal memory or on an external microSD slot.

The G60 also works great as an in-vehicle navigation solution. Pre-loaded maps show common points of interest, turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions will get users to where they want to go, and a suite of online applications adds location information to enhance their use.

The nuvifone G60 features quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) support and tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100MHz) with HSDPA for high-speed downloads. The G60 also features WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. The Garmin-ASUS nuvifone G60 will be on display next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Pricing and availability should be available in the first half of 2009.
