Given that Bluetooth headsets are designed to be worn, it's only fitting that they be especially stylish, as they're often seen as fashion accessories. The Plantronics 925 Bluetooth headset certainly fits this fashion-oriented view, with its sleek lines and leather-clad charging case. But is this a case of form over function?

The Plantronics 925, available in several colors, is clad in a high-gloss color scheme with chrome accents. This Bluetooth headset comes with its own leather charging case that is capable of storing enough power to recharge the headset without needing to be connected to a secondary power source. Charging the carrying case is done either through the micro-USB-to-AC power adapter or by attaching the included micro-USB cable to a PC. A spare set of user-changeable ear gels are also included in the box, to ensure maximum comfort.

The Plantronics 925 Bluetooth headset base is shaped like a slightly rounded diamond, with a hollow v-shaped boom extending out nearly 3 inches from the base. The main multifunction button takes up the entire outer face of the diamond-shaped portion, and houses the multicolored LED notification light. There is only one volume button, located on top left or bottom right, depending on which ear you're wearing the headset on. This volume button can be pressed repeatedly to cycle through three volume settings. Adjacent to the volume key is the micro-USB charging port, proving that the headset can also be charged independent of its handy case.

The Plantronics 925 weighs a slight 8.5g (.3oz), and the ear gels are insanely comfortable and provide a snug and secure fit. I found that I often completely forgot I was wearing the headset and only noticed it after receiving a call. The ear gels themselves sport a small loop which offers great support and I was able to move quite freely without jostling the headset loose.

The LED notification light flashes blue and red when you first power the headset on, letting you know that it's ready to pair with your cell phone. You can activate this mode at any time by pressing and holding the multifunction button for several seconds. A successful pairing is indicated with a flashing blue light.

Now that you've connected your cell phone to the Plantronics 925, you can answer an incoming call easily by pressing the multifunction button once. If you press and hold the button for 2 seconds, the call will be rejected and sent to voicemail. To end an active phone call, you simply press the multifunction button once to disconnect.

The Plantronics 925 supports more advanced call features, as well. For instance, you can press the multifunction button twice to automatically redial the last number you called, or press and hold the button in standby to activate voice dialing (if supported by your phone).

A unique feature of the Plantronics 925 is multipoint support, which allows you to use the headset with 2 different phones at the same time. This is especially useful for business users who carry separate business and personal cell phones. Multipoint is disabled by default, to preserve battery. To enable it, power the headset off by holding the multifunction button down until the notification LED shows red. Then press and hold the multifunction button and the volume button at the same time for about 2 seconds. The headset will turn on and the LED will flash blue 2 times to confirm multipoint is active. You can then simply pair with the second phone as normal.

When using multipoint with 2 cell phones, the advanced calling features of the Plantronics 925 will work on the handset that was most recently used. Thus, if you receive a call on phone 1, and then a call on phone 2, attempting to voice dial later on will access phone 2.
