Today, i-mate announced its new JAMA Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA phone aimed at users wanting a slim and lightweight way of keeping in touch and organized. The lack of Windows Mobile 6.0 and no input method other than the 2.4" QVGA resolution touch screen may deter some potential owners, but for those looking for a basic entry into the Windows Mobile world the JAMA could be the answer.

Nothing surprising can be seen when glancing over the specification sheet, with just dual-band (900/1800MHz) GSM/GPRS and Bluetooth v1.2 available for connectivity; the lack of WiFi or other forms of high-speed data could be the device's downfall. Up to 128MB ROM, 64MB RAM, and a microSD memory expansion slot take care of storage for the device, with a 2.0MP camera a nice inclusion for imaging. A 300MHz Samsung processor runs the show for the JAMA, and while it isn't outstanding, is a little above average for this class of device.

i-mate's usual list of bundled custom applications is present, and includes nice add-ons like the i-mate Profile Controller and i-mate Media Control Panel, which lets you access songs and videos right from the device's Today screen. A complete set of Windows Mobile 5.0 applications is also present for full PIM functionality, instant messaging, and document editing.

The i-mate JAMA will be available during June 2007 in what the manufacturer is calling "...global fast growing smartphone markets."
