T-Mobile has confirmed the launch of the Sidekick iD today, the new low-cost addition to the Sidekick range. The Sidekick iD retains the iconic form factor and swiveling screen of the Sidekick 3, but loses certain features to allow it to enter the market at a much cheaper price point.
While disappearing from the specification sheet are Bluetooth, EDGE high-speed data, a memory card slot, camera, and USB connectivity, the Sidekick iD does have a range of features to make it appeal to shoppers. A 2.4" landscape orientation TFT LCD display with a 240x160 pixel resolution, full HTML compatible web browser, and support for AIM, Yahoo!, and Windows Live Messenger IM services are all present, as is the convenient trackball found in the Sidekick 3. T-Mobile's myFaves service features on the Sidekick iD, and the device includes user-changeable skins for the corners and sides of its body, giving the opportunity to further customize the handset to your tastes.
The 179g (6.3oz) Sidekick iD will be available through T-Mobile starting April 25 for US$99.99 with a two-year service agreement and mail-in rebate. A range of color schemes will be available at launch, including black, yellow, blue, white, purple, and glow-in-the-dark, with accessories to match.
