Officially announced last week, Samsung was showing off the new SCH-u540 for Verizon Wireless at CTIA in Florida, so we snagged the device for some hands on time. Its design is similar to other recent Samsung flip phones, and a solid mid-range feature set makes the SCH-u540 a great option for those looking for a light and easy device.
The Samsung SCH-u540 supports a range of Verizon V CAST services over its EV-DO high-speed data connection, including V CAST Music, Video, and Mobile Web 2.0. The device can handle email, IM, and text/picture/video messaging with ease, and a 2.1" TFT LCD makes usage simple. A 1.3 megapixel camera is on board, with a microSD memory expansion slot available for up to 2GB of storage. Bluetooth is also present in the 80g (2.82oz) device.
The Samsung SCH-u540 should be available from Verizon Wireless by the time you read this for US$79.99 with a two-year service agreement and US$50 mail-in rebate. Check out the following page for more live shots of the device.
