Ultra Thin Samsung SGH-a727 from CES

Snapshot by Brad Kellett on Sunday January 07, 2007.

Live from CES 2007 in Las Vegas, Samsung has announced the new SGH-a727 slim bar-style handset, the successor (at least appearance wise) to the company's popular SGH-X820 (Ultra 6.9).

While the new Samsung SGH-a727 adds a few millimeters of thickness, now measuring 8.9mm (0.35"), the manufacturer has managed to pack HSDPA high-speed data into a handset that is still one of the thinnest on the market. The on board 1.3 megapixel camera is complemented with the 262k color, 220x176 pixel resolution screen for capturing photos and Bluetooth (with A2DP stereo headset support) for sending them to compatible devices. A microSD memory expansion slot is provided, and instant messaging, a document viewer, and mobile email support round out the features on the software side of things.

Unfortunately, Samsung has not provided any details as to the availability of the SGH-a727, though the quad-band device should be able to be used on any GSM network worldwide once it hits the market.

[Note: Samsung's press photos incorrectly show the SGH-a727 with a 2.0 megapixel camera. The actual resolution of the camera is 1.3 megapixel. -Editor]
