i-mate JAQ, new QWERTY enabled WM5 Device

Snapshot by Michael Oryl on Tuesday September 12, 2006.

In addition to the SPL, i-mate also formally launched another new Windows Mobile 5.0 device, the JAQ. Like the SPL, the JAQ is not based on an HTC reference design. It is a Pocket PC device that supports quad-band GSM and has a full QWERTY keyboard for messaging. The company has also said that they will include a free 10MB hosted Microsoft Exchange email address with each JAQ sold.

The JAQ weighs 160g (5.6oz) and measures 122mm x 71mm x 22mm (4.8" x 2.8" x .9") in size. It runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 200MHz TI OMAP processor, and has 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM for storage and applications. The main display is a 2.8" QVGA (320x240) unit that generates up to 64k colors. Java and Bluetooth v1.2 support are included in the package, as are applications such as Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and Powerpoint Mobile.

The JAQ's 1440mAh battery should be good for up to 4 hours of talk time, or 150 hours of standby time. No word yet on a release date or price.
