Up for review today is the sleek and comfortable Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset. The Voyager 510 comes in a number of different versions, differentiated by the bundled accessories, but the one we have today is the standard version. Plantronics headsets are renowned for their sound quality, but have often been criticized for comfort. For the Voyager 510, however, this is not the case.
The Voyager 510 boasts a sleek silver and black color scheme, making it very easy on the eyes. Extending from the inside surface of the ear-loop around to the in-ear bud is a rubber surface that is soft on the ear, and its flexibility allows the ear bud and boom to be positioned for comfort.
While the unit itself is quite large, the folding boom microphone makes storage much easier. The body itself is 76mm x 46mm (2.99" x 1.81"), with the boom extending a further 66mm (2.59"). The boom has a stylish, curvy look to it, and houses an LED, which is located towards the front end of the boom and is capable of glowing both red and blue. The call button is located at the back of the boom, with other buttons located on the back of the ear loop. The volume buttons were easy to find, though they took a bit of effort to press, but the power button was terrible. Even with the headset in hand, finding the button was hard. Even when I did find it, I was unable to successfully press the button whilst wearing the headset.
The body of the Voyager 510, for the most part, seemed fairly scratch resistant. For a large headset, the Voyager 510 is quite light, tipping the scales at just 18g (0.67oz). To complement its light weight, the Voyager 510 is very well balanced, making it feel even lighter.
The version of the Voyager 510 we had for testing came with a padded carry pouch, a sleek looking black and grey desktop USB charger, as well as ear-bud covers and a Bluetooth USB dongle. This list varies though, as accessories are one of the main variations between the different versions.
The Plantronics Voyager 510 is powered by a lithium polymer battery that provided 5:57 (hh:mm) of talk time and comes with a manufacturer claim of 4 days of standby time.
