Siemens SL55After several months of anticipation, german manufacturer Siemens has finally officially unveiled the successor to the popular SL45 series. The new SL55 seems really impressive on the outside. Featuring a Nokia 7650-style sliding keypad, the "mini" SL55 supports many business class features as well a tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz operation and GPRS support.
There's also a full multimedia editor installed, supporting MMS, EMS, Email, and picture messaging features, as well as an add-on camera with integrated flash, which will also be available as an accessory enabling users to take full colour pictures and send them via email or MMS services. There are two supported resolutions. The first supports 160x120 pixel photos, ideal for MMS messages, while the second type offers the ability to take 640x480 pixels resolution photos, ideal for PC transfers etc.
The dimensions of the minimal SL55 are a mere 81.6mm x 44.5mm x 22mm with a weight that barely reaches 79g. It seems a bit constrained as a whole, as its display with only 101x80 pixels of viewing area may seem small for certain applications, but still it looks like a winner in this category. It supports a 12-bit color depth display with full support for screen savers, animation or photos, a WAP v2.0 microbrowser and support for J2ME applications and games.
The new Siemens SL55 is not expected to be available in the market until the end of May, in two colours (Ruby and Titanium) and at an estimated price of 550 euros.
