The HTC TyTN ("titan"), a business oriented 3G Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC phone, is meant to provide users with a mobile office solution. The device offers tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, quadband GSM/EDGE, Bluetooth v2.0, and WiFi - both 802.11b and g. The TyTN also features direct push email, internet browsing, and synchronization with Microsoft Outlook.
The ability to read and write Word and Excel documents is augmented by the TyTN's slide out QWERTY keyboard and large 2.8" touch screen LCD display. A jog wheel control aids in scrolling through menus, lists, and long email messages. The TyTN has a 2 megapixel primary camera for shooting photos and videos, and a secondary camera for 3G video calls. In terms of RAM and storage, 128MB of flash memory and 64MB of application RAM are built into the handset. If that is not enough for you, additional storage can be gained by adding a microSD card, giving extra room for pictures, video, and music files.
The TyTN's Windows Media Player application supports AMR, AAC, WAV, WMA/WMV, and MP3 files. According to HTC, media playback time for WMV video files is 8 hours, with WMA playback coming in at 12 hours. In terms of phone performance, that same battery will get you up to 200 hours of standby time on GSM networks and 180-250 hours on UMTS networks. Talk times of 4-5 hours for GSM and 2-4 hours for UMTS should also be possible.
A few other noteworthy items include support for MMS and Java, smart and voice dialing, and applications for PDF and ZIP files.
The TyTN comes in silver or black and will be available in Europe the end of July.
