Sanyo's First EV-DO Handet for the US Market, the MM-9000

Snapshot by Brad Kellett on Sunday October 30, 2005.

The Sanyo MM-9000 is Sanyo's first EV-DO handset for the U.S. market, and one of the launch handsets for Sprint's new EV-DO high-speed data network, dubbed Power Vision.

The Sanyo MM-9000 has a nice list of features, including a 262,000 color TFT LCD main display with a QVGA (240x320) pixel resolution and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Absent on this handset is Bluetooth, though the MM-9000 does include Push-To-Talk and speakerphone functionality, as well as a miniSD slot for memory expansion.

The Sanyo MM-9000 supports streaming media from Sprint TV Live, giving access to 19 channels plus an additional 31 channels through Sprint TV. Most interesting about this handset, however, is its compatibility with Sprint's new data services over its new EV-DO network. The MM-9000 supports Sprint's new Music Store, giving the ability for a user to preview and download full-length, high-quality music directly to their handset for $2.50USD per song. The Sanyo MM-9000 also supports streaming radio from Sprint, including Sirius Music, Rhapsody Radio, and Music Choice. With the new Sprint Power Vision Connection Manager the MM-9000 can be used as a mobile modem for your desktop or laptop to give broadband-like speeds from within Sprint EV-DO coverage areas.

The Sanyo MM-9000 will be available with the launch of Sprint's EV-DO Power Vision data network starting November.
