Sony Ericsson has confirmed the rumors of a new P-series smartphone today by announcing the new Sony Ericsson P990.
The Sony Ericsson P990 is a fully loaded handset, including support for UMTS 3G networks and WLAN wireless connectivity (802.11b compliant). The Sony Ericsson P990 also supports GSM 900/1800/1900Mhz bands for where 3G networks are not available.
The new P990 smartphone builds on the proven form factor of previous P-series handsets, although it includes a hardware keyboard under the flip, rather than attached to the flip this as with the P910. The Sony Ericsson P990 is fairly heavy, coming in at 155g, although does sport a 2.0 megapixel camera, 80Mb on board memory (with Memory Stick PRO Duo expansion), and includes Blackberry Push Email support.
The Sony Ericsson P990 runs on Symbian OS 9.1 with the UIQ 3.0 software platform, also announced today. The Sony Ericsson P990 will be the first commercially available handset to include Symbian 9.1, and should be available in Q1 2006. No pricing information has been released yet.
