A brand new player in the mobile handset game, Gigabyte communications (a subsidiary of Gigabyte Technology, better known for their computer hardware), has today introduced its first handset, the Gigabyte g-X5.
The Gigabyte g-X5 is an impressive looking, piano black slider handset for the Taiwanese market. The g-X5 supports the GSM 900/1800/1900Mhz bands, and includes a 2.6 million color TFT display along with a megapixel camera. In an interesting twist, the Gigabyte g-X5 includes tri-axis motion sensing, allowing users to interact with games on the handset by merely moving the device in their hand.

The main standout feature of this handset is what Gigabyte is calling POI, or Points Of Interest. This technology integrates e-maps with places of interests, restaurants, and tour routes recommended by the magazine Walker. It will presumable only work in Taiwan, but is an interesting technology none the less.
The Gigabyte g-X5 is available in Taiwan now, with a retail price between NTD13,000 and 14,000 (about US$410 to US$450).
