Taking a break from launching new high-end handsets, Nokia have today announced a pair of new entry level devices aimed at helping to bring mobile telephony to developing markets. The cheaper of the pair, carrying a recommended retail tag of 65EUR, is the Nokia 1110.

The 1110, while lacking a colour screen, does feature a new inverted monochrome display (primarily white text displayed on a black background) while 20-voice polyphonics (providing "MP3-grade sound") and Xpress-on covers allow for user customisation.

The 1110 has been aimed primarily at ease-of-use and economy, so features such as a megapixel camera aren't included, however the 1110 does feature a demo mode, allowing first time mobile users to see graphical walkthroughs of phone features, with or without a SIM inserted. The menu system has also been overhauled with the emphasis on icons as opposed to text, allowing people to come to grips with the phone quicker, something the four-way keypad should also help with.

While the Nokia 1110 doesn't feature Java games, it does come with three pre-installed games including a new flavour of Nokia favourite Snake, named Snake Xenzia. The other games, Dice Games, and Pocket Carrom, should also help pass the time, as will the Instant Messaging client (Chinese 1110's will have Mobile QQ installed instead) and the ability to send picture messages as well as standard texts.

The Nokia 1110 should be available across the world in the third quarter of this year.
