Siemens releases their first color handset, the S55
Snapshot by Michael Oryl on Monday October 21, 2002.

The new Siemens S55It has been a long time coming, but today Siemens has finally officially released their first color handset, the S55. Even though photos and specs have of the new phone have been floating around the Net for quite some time, the company did not acknowledge the existence of the handset until today.
As the last of the majors to unveil a color handset, many people are expecting the S55 to be very special since the company had a lot of extra time to sit back and watch the likes of Sony Ericsson and Samsung. From the official specs and description, it seems like the wait might have been worth it.
The 85g mobile sports a lot of nice high tech features. It has Bluetooth, 16 voice polyphonic ringtones, Java support, and will support a clip-on camera accessory capable of taking images of up to 640x480 in resolution.
The S55 should make its way onto the European markets by december. The S56, the North American version, will be available in the beginning of 2003, as will the Asian S57 variant.
