Ring Plus Sues Cingular for Patent Infringement

Press Release posted by Michelle Ruhfass on Tuesday September 19, 2006.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 2006--"Cingular: You Got Served!" Ringback technology company Ring Plus has filed suit in US Federal Court against wireless carrier Cingular for patent infringement. This move begins the legal war over a potentially lucrative space that is currently a music-only venue that Ring Plus would also like to develop as a marketing platform.

The music industry, also possible targets for infringement litigation, already recognize ring tones and ringback tones as an effective means of promoting new and existing artists. This ability to reach a widespread audience quickly is the appeal that advertisers everywhere are looking to capture.

The ringback tone market is currently a $100+ million a year industry, but projected to be over $2 billion by 2011. Ring Plus believes that by factoring in advertising revenue, the market will swell to $14 billion within the same timeframe.
