Sprint quietly launched the Android 2.1 firmware update for its HTC Hero today. Instead of being applied over-the-air, you'll have to download the update as an executable file from Sprint. Android 2.1 typically adds live wallpapers, voice-to-text functionality, and free navigation, but will also include the latest update of HTC's Sense UI. This update will wipe out your data, though, so be prepared for some setup work.

The OFFICIAL UPDATE IS FOUND ON THE HTC SITE NOT ON THE SPRINT SITE. That being said, here is the link. Enjoy and remember to have your phone at least 50% charged.

While that may indeed be true, all the warnings and the full instructions are on the Sprint site that we linked to. As is the link to the download site.

The update is found one the Sprint site at Sprint.com/downloads. You just select "Smart Phones" then Htc Hero from the list.
