Intel has ported the Android operating system to its Atom powered smartphones, PC World is reporting. Intel's general manager of software and services, Renee James, also said that Intel's customers are interested in running Android on Atom powered devices in the future.

Despite the current focus on Android, Intel is planning to allow all operating systems to run on Atom, James told PC World.

The Atom processor family has typically been reserved for the mobile internet devices and netbooks. While Android has powered a few netbooks in the past, the systems failed to attract mass market attention. [via PC World]
