AT&T adds smartphone touch to feature phones

News by Todd Haselton on Monday March 15, 2010.

Today AT&T launched three new services that will help make some of its feature phones a bit more attractive by adding some features typically found on smartphones. The services will first debut on the Samsung Strive QWERTY messaging phone.

AT&T's free Address Book service lets you sync your contacts to an address book in the cloud. That means you can manage your contacts from a computer, as well as from your phone. This is particularly useful for those that lose their device frequently and need to keep their contacts stored elsewhere. Any contacts added online will sync directly with the phone.

AT&T also revamped its messaging service for upcoming feature phones. You'll now be able to "reply all" to up to ten contacts, and messages are displayed in a seamless threaded conversation. That eliminates having to back out of texts to read new messages, and makes conversations flow easier.

Finally, AT&T introduced Mobile Share, a service that provides 250MB of storage for free, or 10GB of storage for $5 per month, that lets you upload your videos and photos to the web for access from your computer. Images and videos up to 10MB in size can be uploaded.

AT&T expects the services to run on the Samsung Sunburst, Pantech Link, and Pantech Pursuit as well.
