AT&T Launches The Messaging OGO
Product Launch by Michael Oryl on Wednesday September 29, 2004.

AT&T Wireless OGOBluetooth based Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG) devices developed by IXI Mobile are not exactly new, having been on the Italian market for some time as the NeoFone and NeoChat devices, but with AT&T Wireless' roll out of a new PMG device named OGO, you could say that IXI is getting a bit of momentum behind them.
The new OGO has a large 4k color display and a full QWERTY keyboard. But before you go off yelling "Sidekick Killer!", you need to know one thing: you can not make phone calls with an OGO. That's right, even though it is a GSM/GPRS device, it does not support voice. Reminiscent of the Palm Tungsten/W, I suppose. But unlike the Tungsten/W, the OGO is targeted at the youth market.
AT&T is currently offering the device for $100 after rebates. Service plans start out at $18/month, which is cheap. And what do you get for your $18? Unlimited text, IM, and email messaging. How's that grab you? In my day, we called that something else. We called it a BlackBerry....
The specs for the OGO include a weight of 136g and size of 4.5" x 3 x 1". The basic service plan covers one IM account on MSN, AIM, or Yahoo. Additional accounts and IM services can be added for an additional $3 per month. The same $3 fee applies if you want to add an additional POP/MSN/AOL/Yahoo email account.
You can find additional high-res images of the OGO and a few screen captures on the following pages.
