Broadcom launches new HSPA chipset for low-cost Android and Windows Mobile smartphones

News by Todd Haselton on Monday February 08, 2010.

Today Broadcom announced the BCM21553, a 65nm HSPA chipset that will allow manufacturers to create low cost Android and Windows Mobile smartphones.

The chipset features an ARM11 processor and will support download speeds up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds to 5.8Mbps. It also has its own graphics core for 3D rendering and support for 8 megapixel cameras. The BCM21553 uses Broadcom's new BCM2091 RF transceiver which Broadcom says is the smallest HSPA transceiver designed in a low cost 65nm process. Both solutions are available for manufacturers today.
