News by Todd Haselton on Wednesday February 03, 2010.

On January 21st Nokia announced that its Ovi Maps with Navigation would be free for anyone with a supported handset. Since then, there have been over 1.4 million downloads of the application, with the 1 millionth download passed in the first week, that's about 1 install every second.

Nokia sees the large number of users as a growing market for third party location-based services developers.

China, Italy, U.K., Germany, and Spain were the top 5 countries downloading Ovi Maps, and the top devices taking advantage of the software are the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the N97 mini, N97, 5230, and the E72.
