Apple ad campaign targets Verizon network multitasking limitations

News by Brian James Kirk on Tuesday November 24, 2009.

Last night, Apple aired defense ads targeted at Verizon Wireless, challenging the network's inability to support simultaneous voice and data connections on its phones, mocoNews reports.

The ads characterize situations where users are on a call and attempt to look up information on the web or in applications that require data connectivity, which is possible with the iPhone and, more specifically, AT&T's UMTS and GSM based network.

The ads are likely in response to Verizon's "There's a map for that" ad campaign launched earlier this fall. A request by AT&T to have Verizon's ads pulled from television was denied by a federal judge last week, as we reported. Verizon's "Droid Does" ad campaign, which offhandedly targets the iPhone, more than likely inspired Apple to fight back, too.
