Google adds Navigation to Maps on Android 1.6 devices like T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G

News by Michael Oryl on Monday November 23, 2009.

Today Google announced that its new Google Maps Navigation system is now available on devices running the Android 1.6 operating system in the United States. The Android 1.6 OS is currently available even on older devices like the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G.

While the new Google Maps Navigation system for Android 1.6 sports the same features as the version on the Android 2.0-powered Motorola DROID we reviewed, Android 1.6 will not allow for the "Navigate to..." voice commands that 2.0 does.

Users of Android 1.6 devices in the U.S. can get the new version of Google Maps with Navigation from the Android Market.
