Google details Chrome OS, updates Google News for iPhone, Android and Pre
News by Brian James Kirk on Friday November 20, 2009.
Google has shared more details about its Chrome OS netbook operating system. The OS looks almost identical to the standard Chrome web browser, though it adds applications beside the standard browser tabs. The OS also features a notification system and a cross-application chat system that both appear at the bottom of the browser window and can be easily hidden or displayed.
Google is playing up the importance of boot-up speed, and says that Chrome OS can fully load in 10 seconds. They hope to trim that down by release time. Of course, another core element of the OS philosophy is that user information and data will be stored in the cloud using Google's variety of services, like Google Docs, Gmail, and Google Calendar. Security and protection from malware is also a focus.
Google says it will reveal more about Chrome OS in coming months. [via BoyGenusReport]
