Latest webOS update lacks iTunes support. Is Palm caving to Apple?
Newsbrief by Brian James Kirk on Friday November 20, 2009.
The latest update to Palm's webOS operating system did not re-add support for the ability to sync media with iTunes, suggesting that the company may be giving up on its battle with Apple over the feature, mocoNews reports.
Palm and Apple have squabbled over the feature, which Palm first promised to users when Pre smartphone launched in June. Since then, the manufacturer has had to constantly update its software because Apple would change its sync functionality to break compatibility for Palm users. Compatibility was first broken in July, as we've reported.
Palm confirmed with New York Times Bits blog that the feature was excluded from the latest update but it did not specify the reasons why.

Screw iTunes anyway.

It's in the best interest of Palm to focus on more important capabilities for the webOS operating system. iTunes syncing still works with previous iTunes software versions while Windows Media Center syncs perfectly fine with the Palm Pre. There's also a lot of 3rd party software that permits users to sync iTunes with the Palm Pre. You can drop and drag sound files to the Palm Pre just by plugging it to your machine. So there's a handful of ways to load MP3 music, songs, ringtones to the Palm Pre already. Palm finally manage to get Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Calendar/Contacts syncing for the Palm Pre and they need to continue to add more to the list rather than waste their time with iTunes syncing. When they've got nothing left to do twiddlin with their fingers, re-enabling iTunes syncing would be a good idea.
