Sony Ericsson could port Android Nexus UI to Symbian Foundation, other platforms

News by Brian James Kirk on Thursday November 19, 2009.

Pocket-Lint reports that Sony Ericsson could port its Nexus UI, built for its Android-powered XPERIA X10, to other operating systems, like Symbian Foundation.

Yesterday Sony Ericsson announced its WebSDK, a set of development tools to make it easy for developers to create cross-platform applications for Sony Ericsson's Android and Symbian Foundation devices. Sony Ericsson Head of Portfolio Planning and Communications Steve Walker said yesterday at the Web 2.0 conference in New York that Nexus is "more than a UI skin," hinting at a correlation between the user interface and the WebSDK toolkit.

Sony Ericsson says its WebSDK is built with for its Android-powered XPERIA X10 touchscreen handset and its Symbian Foundation-powered Satio touchscreen smartphones. It is not known when the software would be available to users, but developers can find out more information at Sony Ericsson's developer website.
