European Union finds 70 percent of ringtone sites breaking rules in investigation

Newsbrief by Brian James Kirk on Wednesday November 18, 2009.

The European Union says that 70 percent of ringtones sales websites were breaking EU rules on pricing and transparency during an investigation into the industry, the Register reports.

The investigation put many companies on the run. Of the 554 ringtone sites examined, many companies modified their information when contacted by the government and 54 disappeared completely. Italy's regulator fined nine companies a total of 2 million EUR (US$2.9 million).
