T-Mobile UK staff sold millions of customer records to third-party brokers
News by Brian James Kirk on Wednesday November 18, 2009.
BBC News reports that T-Mobile UK staffers sold millions of customer records to third-party brokers who then sold the data to other firms that would cold call customers when their contracts were close to expiring.
The carrier says the data had been taken without its knowledge and that it had been working with government officials in the Information Commissioner's Office to track down the breach to its customer data.
T-Mobile was keeping the information secret until criminal prosecutions could be made without prejudice. The government says it is looking to give tougher penalties for these types of illegal transactions. [via mocoNews]
