Qualcomm introduces MSM7x30 chip family built for multimedia, graphics, and web

News by Brian James Kirk on Friday November 13, 2009.

Qualcomm has announced MSM7x30, a new family of processor chips built for multimedia, high-definition video, advanced graphics, and a responsive web experience.

The MSM7x30 family will feature the same ARM v7 instruction set utilized in Qualcomm's Snapdragon QSD8x50 chipsets and has a variable clock rate that can range from 800MHz to 1GHz. The chipset family allows for 720p high-definition video, 2D and 3D graphics supported by OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG, support for 5.1 surround sound audio, and can accommodate up to a 12.0 megapixel camera, and features integrated GPS support. Support for Bluetooth and FM radio can easily be built-in, and WiFi technology also can be easily implemented.

The MSM7230 will offer HSPA+ data connectivity and the MSM7630 would allow users to connect to HSPA+ and EV-DO networks. Android, Windows Mobile, Brew, and Symbian platforms are supported by the processor family, which Qualcomm says will launch before the end of the 2010.

The company also announced its MDM8220, MDM9200, and MDM9600 chipsets, multi-mode sets which allow for connectivity on HSPA+ and 3G/LTE networks. The multi-mode technology lets networks provide customers an easy transition from 3G to LTE upgrades. [via Phone Scoop]
