MetroPCS income jumps 60 percent, total subscribers reaches 6.3 million

News by Brian James Kirk on Thursday November 05, 2009.

MetroPCS posted a third-quarter net income of $73.5 million, up 64 percent from the $44.8 million in last year's third quarter. Revenue reached $896 million in the quarter, up 30 percent from $687 million year-over-year.

Total subscribers reached 6.3 million, up 31 percent from 4.8 million in the third quarter of 2008. The carrier saw only 66,000 net additions, down from 249,000 in last year's quarter, slowed by a poor U.S. economy and increasing competition, the company says.

The carrier's APRU for the quarter was $41.08, a $0.35 increase since last year's quarter and a $0.56 increase since the second quarter of this year. The company saw its churn increase from 4.8 percent to 5.8 percent in the quarter, it said.
