Today Verizon Wireless and Samsung announced the new Samsung Convoy, a rugged clamshell handset with high-speed 3G data and push-to-talk functionality.

The new Convoy meets or exceeds MIL-SPEC 810F standards for all sorts of abuse. It has been designed to withstand the following: shock, dust, vibration, salt fog, humidity, solar radiation, altitude, and both high and low temperature extremes. In addition to that toughness, the phone also features a stereo speaker system and a large 1300mAh battery.

Other features in the Convoy include a 2.0 megapixel camera, Bluetooth wireless headset and stereo headphone support, and the ability to run Verizon's VZ Navigator GPS navigation system.

The Samsung Convoy is set to be available for purchase on November 15 for $49.99 with a 2 year agreement, after a $50 mail-in rebate that comes in the form of a debit card. Push-to-talk service costs an additional $5 per month over the cost of a normal monthly plan.
