Verizon Wireless to offer tethering support for Motorola DROID

News by Jake Humphrey on Wednesday November 04, 2009.

Verizon Wireless today said that it would offer tethering support for its Android powered Motorola DROID smart phone in early 2010, according to Gearlog.com.

Tethering allows smart phone users to attach their phones to a computer, either using Bluetooth or a USB cable, to use their phones as a modem. Data speeds typically are comparable to wireless broadband USB modems. The DROID runs on Verizon Wireless' 3G EV-DO Rev. A network for fast upload and download speeds.

Verizon Wireless' current Broadband Access Connect plan costs $15, so DROID customers should expect to add that feature to their plans to take advantage of the service. There is a 5GB cap on all of the major wireless carrier broadband plans.
