AT&T, Verizon, others agree to LTE voice and SMS standards, ensuring international roaming

Several major telecommunication companies including Nokia, Samsung, AT&T, Verizon, Sony Ericsson, Vodafone and others have agreed upon standards for delivering voice and SMS over Long Term Evolution^(INFO) 4G wireless networks globally.

The solution, which will guarantee international roaming an interoperability between LTE services, is called One Voice and is based upon existing 3GPP-specifications for optimal compatibility. Orange, Telefonica, and TeliaSonera have also agreed to the new standards, as well as Nokia Siemens and Alcatel-Lucent.

The One Voice profile for voice and SMS over LTE has been finalized, and it is expected that it will be turned over to existing industry forums for future development.
