HTC Hero will receive Android 2.0 "Eclair" update

Newsbrief by Brian James Kirk on Thursday October 29, 2009.

The HTC Hero Android-powered smartphone apparently will be updated to version 2.0 of the mobile operating system, a post on HTC's Twitter account reveals. "The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS," the post said.

The subtle announcement ends speculation on whether or not some HTC devices would receive the upgrade from earlier Android releases. Earlier this week, HTC said it was working on Android 2.0 devices, as we reported. Google's 2.0 "Eclair" software development kit launched later that day.
