HTC: DROID isn't the only upcoming Android 2.0 smartphone

News by Brian James Kirk on Tuesday October 27, 2009.

Gearlog reports that HTC is developing smartphones using the version 2.0 release of Android, also known as "Eclair," and that the much-hyped Motorola DROID is not the only device that will soon launch with the updated operating system.

HTC told reporter Sascha Segan that it has been working on an Android 2.0 phone "for a while." Segan notes that the open development mentality at Google and its refusal to play favorites is important to Android as an open OS. Samsung did not comment to Segan whether or not it is working on an Android 2.0 device.

Verizon and Motorola are expected to announce the new MOTO DROID smartphone, featuring Android 2.0, tomorrow at a series of press interviews in New York City. There's no word on when HTC's Android 2.0 devices will be announced.
